Opening Song: Indescribable

From the highest of heights to the depths of the sea
Creation’s revealing your majesty
From the colors of fall to the fragrance of spring
Every creature unique in the song that it sings
All exclaiming

Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and you know them by name.
You are amazing, God
All powerful, unshakeable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing, God

Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go
Or seen heavenly storehouses laden with snow
Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light
Yet conceals it to bring us the coolness of night
None can fathom

Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and you know them by name.
You are amazing, God
All powerful, unshakeable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing, God
You are amazing, God

Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and you know them by name.
You are amazing, God
All powerful, unshakeable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing, God

Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and you know them by name.
You are amazing, God
Incomparable, unchangeable
You see the depths of my heart and you love me the same
You are amazing, God
You are amazing, God

Welcome and Confession

P:   The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you.
C:   And also with you.

P:   Brothers and sisters, we have come into the presence of God, who created us to love and serve him as his dear children. But we have disobeyed him and deserve only his wrath and punishment. Therefore, let us confess our sins to him and plead for his mercy:
C:   Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth. In countless ways I have sinned against you and do not deserve to be called your child. But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt.

P:   God, our heavenly Father, has forgiven all your sins. By the perfect life and innocent death of our Lord Jesus Christ, he has removed your guilt forever. You are his own dear child. May God give you strength to live according to his will.
C:   Amen.

P:   In the peace of forgiveness, let us praise the Lord.

Song of Praise: Indescribable (Reprise)

Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and you know them by name.
You are amazing, God
All powerful, unshakeable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing, God

Lesson: Romans 8:31-34

What then will we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Indeed, he who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also graciously give us all things along with him?

Who will bring an accusation against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies! Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus, who died and, more than that, was raised to life, is the one who is at God’s right hand and who is also interceding for us!

Gospel: Luke 4:33-37

In the synagogue there was a man who was possessed by the unclean spirit of a demon. He cried out with a loud voice, “Leave us alone! What do you have to do with us, Jesus the Nazarene? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are: the Holy One of God!”

Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” The demon threw him down in front of them and came out of him without harming him.

They were all filled with awe and began to say to one another, “What is this message? With authority and power he commands unclean spirits, and they come out!” News about him spread to every place in the surrounding area.

Song of the Day: Who You Say I Am

Who am I that the highest King
Would welcome me?
I was lost but he brought me in
Oh his love for me. Oh his love for me

Who the Son sets free. Oh is free indeed
I’m a child of God, Yes, I am

Free at last, he has ransomed me
His grace runs deep
While I was a slave to sin
Jesus died for me, Yes, he died for me.

Who the Son sets free, Oh is free indeed
I’m a child of God, Yes, I am

In my Father’s house, There’s a place for me
I’m a child of God, Yes, I am

I am chosen, Not forsaken
I am who you say I am
You are for me, Not against me
I am who you say I am

I am chosen, Not forsaken
I am who you say I am
You are for me, Not against me
I am who you say I am
I am who you say I am

Who the Son sets free, Oh is free indeed
I’m a child of God, Yes, I am

In my Father’s house, There’s a place for me
I’m a child of God, Yes, I am
In my Father’s house, There’s a place for me
I’m a child of God, Yes, I am

I am chosen, Not forsaken
I am who you say I am
You are for me, Not against me
I am who you say I am

I am chosen, Not forsaken
I am who you say I am
You are for me, Not against me
I am who you say I am
Oh, I am who you say I am
Yes, I am who you say I am

Who the Son sets free, Oh is free indeed
I’m a child of God, Yes, I am
In my Father’s house, There’s a place for me
I’m a child of God, Yes, I am

Message: HOPE: For When Others Are Against You

Psalm 71

In you, Lord, I have taken refuge.
May I not be put to shame forever.

In your righteousness rescue me and deliver me.
Turn your ear to me and save me.
Be my rock and my refuge to which I can always go.
You give the command to save me,
because you are my high ridge and my stronghold.
My God, deliver me from the hand of the wicked,
from the grasp of the unjust and the ruthless.

For you have been my hope, Lord God,
my confidence since my youth.
I have depended on you since I was in the womb.
You separated me from my mother’s body.
My praise to you is continuous.

I am like an evil omen to many,
but you are my strong refuge.
My mouth is filled with praise for you
and with your splendor all day long.

Do not throw me away in old age.
As my strength fails, do not forsake me.
For my enemies speak against me,
and those who seek my life conspire together.
They say, “God has forsaken him.
Pursue him and seize him,
because there is no one to rescue him.”
God, do not be far from me.
My God, hurry to help me.
Let them be ashamed.
Let my murderous accusers be consumed.
Let those who seek to harm me be covered
with shame and disgrace.

But as for me, I will always keep hoping.
I will keep adding to my praise for you.
My mouth will tell about your righteousness,
about your salvation all day long,
although I do not know how to tell all about it.
I will come and tell about your mighty deeds, Lord God.
I will commemorate your righteousness, yours alone.
God, you have taught me since my youth,
and even now I still declare your marvelous deeds.
Even when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me,
till I declare the strength of your arm to the next generation,
your power to all who are to come.

Your righteousness, God, reaches to the heights.
You have done great things.
God, who is like you,
you who have made us see many troubles and disasters?
You will give us life again.
From the depths of the earth you will bring me up again.
You will increase my greatness and comfort me once again.

Yes, I will praise you, my God, for your faithfulness.
I will praise you with an instrument, with the harp.
I will make music to you with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel.
My lips will shout with joy when I make music to you.
Even my soul, which you have redeemed, will shout.
Indeed, my tongue will tell of your righteousness all day long.
How ashamed, how disgraced they are--
those who are trying to harm me.

Confession: The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
          maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
          born of the virgin Mary,
          suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
     He descended into hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
     He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
          the holy Christian Church,
               the communion of saints,
          the forgiveness of sins,
          the resurrection of the body,
          and the life everlasting.

Amen.

Prayer and Lord's Prayer

Our Father,
     who art in heaven,
     hallowed be thy name,
     thy kingdom come,
     thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
     as we forgive those
     who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory
     forever and ever.

Amen.

Blessing

P:   O Lord God, our heavenly Father, pour out the Holy Spirit on your faithful people. Keep us strong in your grace and truth, protect and comfort us in all temptation, and bestow on us your saving peace, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C:   Amen.

P:   Brothers and sisters, go in peace.
Live in harmony with one another.
      Serve the Lord with gladness.

The Lord bless you and keep you.
The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.
The Lord look on you with favor and give you peace.
C:   Amen!

Closing Song: Shout to the North

Men of faith rise up and sing
Of the great and glorious king
You are strong when you feel weak
In your brokenness complete

Shout to the north and the south
Sing to the east and the west
Jesus is Savior to all
Lord of heaven and earth

Rise up women of the truth
Stand and sing to broken hearts
Who can know the healing power
Of the awesome King of Love

Shout to the north and the south
Sing to the east and the west
Jesus is Savior to all
Lord of heaven and earth

Shout to the north and the south
Sing to the east and the west
Jesus is Savior to all
Lord of heaven and earth

We've been through fire.
We've been through rain
We've been refined
By the power of your name
We've fallen deeper in love with you
You've burned the truth on our lips

Shout to the north and the south
Sing to the east and the west
Jesus is Savior to all
Lord of heaven and earth

Shout to the north and the south
Sing to the east and the west
Jesus is Savior to all
Lord of heaven and earth

Rise up church with broken wings
Fill this place with songs again
Of our God who reigns on high
By his grace again we'll fly.

Shout to the north and the south
Sing to the east and the west
Jesus is Savior to all
Lord of heaven and earth

Shout to the north and the south
Sing to the east and the west
Jesus is Savior to all
Lord of heaven and earth

Shout to the north and the south
Sing to the east and the west
Jesus is Savior to all
Lord of heaven and earth
Lord of heaven and earth
Lord of heaven and earth
Lord of heaven and earth
